Keswick Mountain Festival (KMF) has revealed the first details of plans for 2016. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the festival will host its biggest ever programme of outdoor and sporting activities next year, and will run from Thursday 19 until Sunday 22 May. KMF, sponsored by Hi-Tec, has grown into one of the biggest outdoor events in the UK, with over 17,000 visitors this year, including over 2,000 who took part in the sporting events.
The 2016 Keswick Mountain Festival sports programme will include popular races from recent years, plus the addition of some new events. Running and triathlon events will take place on both Saturday and Sunday, to give people the opportunity to enter more than one race in the same discipline over the weekend. The hugely popular Keswick Mountain Festival Trail Races and Triathlons will return, with a variety of distances on offer and changes to some courses. Also on the schedule again will be the 1500m Derwent Island Open Water Swim and Back o’ Skiddaw 70k Cycling Sportive.
Athletes can secure entries on these events by booking at www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk, and are advised to act quickly as many of this year’s events sold out well before the festival. Everyone who books a place on a KMF sporting event will also be entitled to claim one free ticket to attend either the Friday or Saturday night concert in the Keswick Mountain Festival Village on Crow Park. In addition, they will be able to book their camping at the same time, along with more concert tickets for friends and family.
In addition to the well-established sporting events, Keswick Mountain Festival is also planning to introduce new sporting events to its 2016 programme. Details are under wraps for now, but will be released shortly.
Lucy Scrase, KMF sporting director, comments: “This year, we saw a big leap in the number of participants in the sporting events at Keswick Mountain Festival, but the clear message from visitors was that they had an appetite for even more options. So, on one hand, we will continue with the established and successful events and build more capacity in those. On the other, we have a couple of new events that we’re really excited about and which we will announce soon. The sports programme is also really popular for other festival visitors who want to watch the action and I think that the way we will stage and timetable everything in 2016 will be really spectacular for everyone involved.”
More details about the wider programme will be released in the near future, including other outdoor activities, a full schedule of speakers and the concert line up. To find out more, visit www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk.
